Baby Brittany is an audio recording that accompanied my work at the 2013 Graduate Degree Show at Cranbrook Art Museum. I asked my parents to share a memory of what I was like as a child. The above image was taken from my sketchbook in 2009. It is a drawing of my adult self holding my child self.
This audio was documented during a performance where I trace the arm span of a woman who is of similar height as me. She then traces my arm span in the same location. The drawing offers a comparison of physical likeness. The performance is an ongoing search for a woman who has arms that are identical to mine.
I have kept every greeting card given to me since the age of ten. In Holiday I recite all of the personal messages written inside these cards. I spoke through a megaphone, I wanted the recording to sound like I was very far away.
